CNTXT AI Raises $60 Million to Build the Sovereign AI Infrastructure Powering the Next Era of Enterprise Adoption

The artificial intelligence boom has moved beyond experimentation. Enterprises and governments around the world are no longer asking whether they should adopt AI. Instead, they are grappling with a more complex question: How can they deploy AI securely while maintaining complete control over their most valuable asset, their data?

For Mohammad Abu Sheikh, the answer lies in sovereignty. This week, UAE-based CNTXT AI announced that it has raised $60 million in a Series A funding round co-led by AI71 and BlueFive Capital, marking one of the largest Series A rounds in the region’s rapidly evolving artificial intelligence sector. The funding will enable the company to accelerate product development, expand into new markets, and deploy secure AI infrastructure for enterprise and government customers worldwide.

At a time when concerns around data privacy, regulatory compliance, and national security are reshaping the AI conversation, CNTXT AI is betting that the future belongs to organisations that can harness artificial intelligence without surrendering control of their data.

From Startup Founder to AI Ecosystem Builder

CNTXT AI was founded in 2023 by Mohammad Abu Sheikh, one of the Middle East’s most prominent entrepreneurs in the AI space. Abu Sheikh is no stranger to building and exiting successful ventures. His previous startup, LocAI, was acquired by AI71, Abu Dhabi’s applied AI company focused on sovereign and domain-specialised artificial intelligence. In a full-circle moment, AI71 has now returned as a co-lead investor in CNTXT AI’s latest funding round.

Beyond operating companies, Abu Sheikh has also emerged as an ecosystem builder. He founded SMPL AI, a $25 million investment fund dedicated to supporting early-stage AI startups, reinforcing his belief that the region can become a global force in applied artificial intelligence.

His vision for CNTXT AI reflects years of experience working at the intersection of infrastructure, deployment, and enterprise adoption. “The era of AI experimentation is over,” Abu Sheikh said. “The era of execution has begun.”

“This funding strengthens our ability to build the sovereign infrastructure and talent needed to deploy AI at scale. Our focus has always been on making AI work in the real world, under the most demanding conditions.”

Why Sovereign AI Matters

As generative AI capabilities become increasingly powerful, organisations face a difficult trade-off. On one hand, they want access to cutting-edge technologies capable of transforming productivity and decision-making. On the other, they must comply with stringent regulations governing how data is stored, processed, and shared.

For governments, healthcare providers, financial institutions, and critical industries, sending sensitive information to external platforms can present unacceptable risks.

CNTXT AI was built specifically to address this challenge. The company enables organisations to develop and deploy AI applications while maintaining full sovereignty over their data. Rather than forcing enterprises to choose between innovation and control, CNTXT AI provides the infrastructure needed to achieve both.

In practical terms, this means governments can build AI systems without compromising national security requirements. Financial institutions can deploy intelligent workflows while preserving confidentiality. Healthcare organisations can explore advanced applications without exposing patient records.

As global debates around data ownership intensify, sovereign AI is rapidly moving from niche concept to strategic necessity.

Building the Infrastructure Behind AI Adoption

Unlike consumer-facing AI startups that focus primarily on end-user applications, CNTXT AI operates deeper within the technology stack. The company works with some of the world’s largest technology providers, including Oracle, NVIDIA, and AWS. It has also supported several major global AI developers on large language model initiatives and enterprise deployments across multiple markets.

Its role is to bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI capabilities and the practical realities of enterprise implementation. The opportunity is significant.

While many organisations have experimented with artificial intelligence through pilot projects and limited proofs of concept, relatively few have successfully deployed AI at scale. Concerns around infrastructure, compliance, talent shortages, and operational complexity continue to slow adoption.

CNTXT AI aims to eliminate those barriers. By providing secure, enterprise-grade infrastructure tailored to the unique requirements of both public and private sector organisations, the company hopes to accelerate the transition from experimentation to execution.

Munsit and the Race to Master Arabic AI

One of CNTXT AI’s flagship products is Munsit, an Arabic voice AI platform designed specifically for the linguistic complexity of the Arab world. Arabic presents one of the most challenging environments for artificial intelligence systems.

Beyond Modern Standard Arabic, the language encompasses dozens of dialects that vary significantly across countries and regions. Building AI systems capable of understanding these nuances requires specialised expertise and large volumes of training data.

According to the company, Munsit has already processed more than one million minutes of speech and currently serves over 250 enterprise customers and 150,000 users.

Earlier this year, CNTXT AI strengthened its Arabic AI capabilities through the acquisition of Actualize, an enterprise AI startup specialising in dialect-aware Arabic voice agents.

The acquisition reflects the company’s ambition to become a leader not only in sovereign infrastructure but also in Arabic-first AI applications designed specifically for the GCC and wider Middle East.

Investor Confidence in UAE-Born AI Companies

The scale of CNTXT AI’s Series A funding sends a powerful signal about investor confidence in the region’s artificial intelligence ambitions. The round was co-led by AI71 and BlueFive Capital, two investors actively backing the next generation of AI companies emerging from the Gulf.

Reda Nidhakou, Member of AI71’s Board of Directors and CEO of VentureOne, highlighted the company’s execution capabilities. “CNTXT AI capabilities and speed of execution stand out in this fast-moving AI world,”

He said. “An impressive venture born in the UAE but addressing global AI deployment needs. This investment strengthens our ability to build the environment needed to deploy AI at scale and to address our clients’ data sovereignty requirements.”

BlueFive Capital echoed similar sentiments. “We backed CNTXT AI because they are building exactly the kind of technology-driven platform the region needs,” said Hazem Ben-Gacem, Founder and CEO of BlueFive Capital.

“One that turns raw data into real AI outcomes. This is the type of globally competitive business we want to build alongside.”

The UAE’s Growing AI Ambitions

CNTXT AI’s rise also reflects a broader transformation underway across the UAE. The country has spent years investing heavily in digital infrastructure, attracting global talent, and positioning itself as a hub for emerging technologies. Artificial intelligence has become a cornerstone of that strategy.

Rather than limiting itself to being a consumer of imported technologies, the UAE increasingly aims to develop globally competitive AI companies capable of exporting innovation to the rest of the world. CNTXT AI represents that ambition in action.

Founded in Abu Dhabi, built by regional talent, and solving problems relevant to both local and international markets, the company embodies a new generation of Middle Eastern startups competing on a global stage.

The Shift From Experimentation to Execution

The first wave of generative AI sparked excitement, curiosity, and experimentation. The next wave will be defined by implementation. The winners of this new era are unlikely to be the organisations with the most pilot projects. Instead, they will be those capable of deploying AI securely, responsibly, and at scale within real operational environments. CNTXT AI believes that sovereign infrastructure will become the foundation enabling that transition.

For Mohammad Abu Sheikh, the mission is straightforward. The future of AI isn’t about demonstrations. It’s about execution. And as governments and enterprises increasingly demand both intelligence and control, CNTXT AI is positioning itself to provide the infrastructure powering that future.
