Bahrain-headquartered private markets investment platform Tanami has closed a new funding round backed by a group of strategic regional and international investors, as the company prepares to expand into additional markets and broaden access to private investment opportunities across the region.

The funding round included participation from tali ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of stc group, Qatar Development Bank (QDB), UK-based 1818 Ventures, and other strategic regional investors. The financial terms of the round were not disclosed.

Founded in 2023 by Nawaf Almaskati and Faisal Aljalahma, Tanami is building a digital gateway to private markets, allowing eligible investors to access opportunities across private equity, private credit, real estate and infrastructure through a digital investment experience.

Bringing Private Markets Online

Private markets have traditionally been difficult for many investors to access. Opportunities in areas such as private equity, private credit and infrastructure often involve complex structures, high minimum investments and relationships with established financial institutions or asset managers.

Tanami is attempting to simplify that experience through technology.

Its platform allows eligible investors to discover investment opportunities, deploy capital and monitor their investments digitally. The company provides access to opportunities managed by established global asset managers, bringing those investments into a platform designed for investors across the region.

The objective is not simply to digitize the investment process, but to create a more accessible gateway into an asset class that has historically been less straightforward to navigate.

From Bahrain to Saudi Arabia

Tanami initially launched in Bahrain under the supervision of the Central Bank of Bahrain, before expanding into Saudi Arabia following approval from the Capital Market Authority.

The regulatory expansion has given the company a foundation from which to operate across two of the region’s most important financial markets.

Its next target is Qatar. The new funding will support Tanami’s expansion into additional regional markets, including Qatar, while helping the company grow its investor base and continue developing its digital investment platform.

The company’s expansion comes as demand for alternative investment opportunities continues to develop across the Gulf, where a growing pool of sophisticated investors is looking beyond traditional public-market investments.

Strategic Investors See a Regional Opportunity

The participation of tali ventures gives Tanami access to a strategic investor connected to one of the region’s largest telecommunications groups.

For tali ventures, the investment also expands stc group’s exposure to emerging digital business models, particularly at the intersection of technology, private markets and digital wealth management.

Qatar Development Bank and 1818 Ventures add further regional and international backing to Tanami’s expansion plans.

For a company operating in financial services, the combination of regulatory approvals, technology infrastructure and strategic partnerships is particularly important as it moves into new markets.

Building a Digital Wealth Platform

Tanami’s founders see the company as more than a marketplace for individual private investment opportunities.

“This funding round was a strong validation of what we are building at Tanami and the scale of the opportunity ahead,” said Dr. Nawaf Almaskati, Co-founder and CEO of Tanami Saudi Arabia. “Investors across the region have long been underserved in accessing private markets, and our growth to date demonstrates the significance of that unmet demand.”

The company intends to use the new capital to serve more investors while continuing to develop its platform.

For co-founder and Tanami Bahrain CEO Faisal Aljalahma, the long-term ambition is to create a new gateway through which investors can participate in private markets.

“We are building more than an investment platform; we are creating a new gateway to private markets for investors across the region,” Aljalahma said.

The Next Phase of Regional Expansion

Tanami’s current offering spans four major private-market categories: private equity, private credit, real estate and infrastructure. By bringing these opportunities together in one digital environment, the company is seeking to make the investment journey more streamlined, from discovering an opportunity through deploying capital and monitoring investments.

Its expansion into Qatar will be an important next step in that strategy. The broader opportunity is to build a regional private-markets platform that can connect eligible investors with opportunities managed by established global investment managers, while giving investors a digital interface for managing their portfolios.

For Tanami, the latest funding provides the capital and strategic backing to accelerate that expansion.

What began in Bahrain in 2023 is now evolving into a regional financial technology platform with ambitions across the Gulf. As Tanami enters its next phase, its success will depend on how effectively it can combine regulatory infrastructure, technology and access to high-quality private-market opportunities into a platform investors across the region are willing to make part of their long-term financial strategy.
