1. Who we are

Startup Muslim (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website [www.startupmuslim.com] (the “Site”), a media platform covering Muslim founders, startup funding, technology, and the halal economy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

2. Information we collect

We collect information in the following ways:

  • Newsletter sign-up: When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and any other fields you submit through Beehiiv, our email newsletter provider. Beehiiv processes this data on our behalf under its own privacy policy, available at beehiiv.com/privacy.
  • Story submissions and founder nominations: When you use our “Submit Your Story” or “Nominate a Founder” forms, we collect the information you voluntarily provide, which may include your name, email address, company name, and details about your or someone else’s business.
  • Automatically collected information: Like most websites, our Site may use cookies, log files, and similar technologies to collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and time spent on the Site.   • Information you provide directly: If you contact us by email or through a contact form, we collect whatever information you choose to share in that communication.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Send the newsletter and respond to subscriber requests, including unsubscribes.
  • Review and respond to story submissions and founder nominations.
  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Site, including understanding which content resonates with readers.
  • Communicate with you about updates, opportunities, or events related to Startup Muslim.
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect against fraud or misuse of the Site.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. How we share your information

We share information only in the following circumstances:

  • With service providers who process data on our behalf, currently Beehiiv for newsletter delivery and [hosting provider, e.g. Hostinger]. These providers are only permitted to use your data to perform services for us.
  • If you submit a story or nomination intended for publication, the information you provide may be published on the Site as part of an article, with your consent confirmed before publishing.
  • If required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Startup Muslim, our users, or the public.
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you of any material change in how your information is handled.
  • With potential investors or acquirers for due diligence purposes during fundraising or acquisition discussions. We share aggregated or anonymized subscriber metrics, such as list size, growth rate, and engagement rates, by default. Where an investor or acquirer requires access to individual subscriber data, that access is limited to what is reasonably necessary, is provided under a signed confidentiality or non-disclosure agreement, and where practical is reviewed in a controlled setting, such as a data room or screen-share, rather than an exportable file.

5. Cookies and tracking

Our Site may use cookies to remember your preferences and understand how visitors use the Site. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Startup Muslim is based in the United States, and our Site and service providers may process and store data on servers located in the United States or other countries. By using the Site, you consent to this transfer and processing. If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or other regions with their own data protection laws, you may have additional rights described in Section 8.

8. Your rights and choices

  • Unsubscribe: Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link managed through Beehiiv.
  • Access, correction, deletion: You may request a copy of, correction to, or deletion of your personal information by emailing salam@startupmuslim.com.
  • Do Not Sell/Share: We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If this changes, this policy will be updated and, where required, you will be given a way to opt out.

9. Children’s privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at salam@startupmuslim.com and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated via the Site or, where appropriate, by email to newsletter subscribers.
