UAE-based taxtech startup Tax Star has raised $1.75 million in a Seed funding round, backed primarily by angel investors, as the company prepares to capitalize on the UAE’s rapidly evolving e-invoicing landscape and expand its AI-powered compliance platform across the GCC.
Founded in 2023 by Rayhan Aleem and Haris Tasawar, Tax Star built the UAE’s first AI-powered corporate tax platform and has since expanded its focus toward the country’s upcoming e-invoicing regime. The company is also a pre-approved Accredited Service Provider (ASP) for UAE e-invoicing, positioning it to help businesses navigate one of the country’s most significant digital tax transformations.
Built by Accountants, for Accountants
For Aleem, Tax Star emerged from a problem he experienced firsthand. As both an accountant and the operator of an accounting firm, he saw how often accounting professionals were forced back into spreadsheets despite the growing number of software tools available to them.
The reason, he believes, is that many accounting technologies are designed primarily by software engineers rather than by people who understand the daily realities of accountants.
“At Tax Star, we are Accountants building for Accountants,” Aleem said.
The company’s mission is to streamline tax compliance through automation and AI, helping accountants become more productive while reducing the compliance burden on the businesses they serve.
Positioning for the UAE’s E-Invoicing Transformation
Tax Star’s latest funding comes at a pivotal moment for the UAE’s tax technology ecosystem. The company is a pre-approved Accredited Service Provider for the UAE’s upcoming e-invoicing system, creating an opportunity to serve as a technology bridge between businesses and the country’s electronic invoicing infrastructure.
The company’s status as a pre-approved ASP gives it an early position as businesses prepare for mandatory e-invoicing requirements. According to the company, businesses with annual revenue of AED 50 million or more face an ASP appointment deadline of October 30, 2026, ahead of the first mandatory implementation phase in January 2027.
For Tax Star, the opportunity extends beyond simply helping companies submit compliant invoices. Its broader objective is to make tax and compliance easier to manage through automation, integrations and AI.
From UAE TaxTech to Global Ambition
The new capital will be directed toward three priorities: go-to-market expansion, product development and simplifying compliance for businesses navigating the UAE’s e-invoicing requirements.
Tax Star currently integrates with accounting platforms including Xero, QuickBooks, Zoho and Odoo, while also offering an integration with Naqood. The company says it is the only ASP listed on the Xero and QuickBooks App Stores offering native integration with those platforms.
The startup has also benefited from programs including Plug and Play and Dubai Founders HQ, while participating in the Microsoft for Startups Program. The company is aspiring to join Dubai’s D33 initiative as it builds toward its next phase of growth.
A GCC Launchpad for a Global E-Invoicing Market
Aleem sees the UAE not as the destination, but as the starting point.
“This funding lets us do what matters most right now: help accountants be more productive using our tech, expand our go-to-market efforts and ease the compliance burden for businesses across the GCC,” he said.
The company plans to expand across the GCC before eventually pursuing international markets. Aleem points to a much larger global opportunity, noting that 90 countries are expected to roll out e-invoicing over the next five years.
“We want to be flying the flag as a UAE based start-up expanding globally,” he added.
For Tax Star, the $1.75 million raise therefore represents more than another financing milestone. It gives the company capital to strengthen its position at the intersection of AI, accounting and regulatory technology, while using the UAE’s e-invoicing transition as a potential launchpad for a much broader global tax compliance platform.
