Egyptian private equity firm Elevate Capital has completed the acquisition of 100% of Nile Scan & Labs, one of Egypt’s largest diagnostic healthcare providers, in a transaction valued at approximately EGP 1 billion (around US$20 million). The acquisition represents another milestone in the firm’s ambition to build one of the Middle East and Africa’s most integrated healthcare ecosystems.
The transaction was completed through a consortium comprising Elevate Capital and members of the Moharram family, bringing nearly three decades of diagnostic expertise under a unified ownership structure. While financial details beyond the equity valuation were not disclosed, the acquisition positions the group to accelerate expansion across hospitals, diagnostics, pharmacies, outpatient care, and specialized healthcare services.
Building an Integrated Healthcare Ecosystem
Founded nearly 30 years ago, Nile Scan & Labs has become one of Egypt’s leading providers of medical diagnostic services. Today, the company operates a nationwide network of more than 20 diagnostic centers, serves over 150,000 patients annually, and employs more than 800 medical and technical professionals.
Rather than integrating the business into a new identity, Elevate Capital confirmed that Nile Scan & Labs will continue operating under its established brand while benefiting from shared technology, operational efficiencies, and strategic investments across the broader healthcare platform.
The acquisition significantly strengthens Elevate Capital’s growing portfolio, which already includes Gustave Roussy International Hospital – Egypt, New Giza University Hospital, Nile Health Pharmacies, and several specialized healthcare platforms. By bringing diagnostics, hospitals, pharmacies, and outpatient services under one umbrella, the group aims to create a seamless patient journey while improving operational efficiency throughout the healthcare value chain.
Digital Transformation and Regional Expansion
According to Dr. Tarek Moharram, Chairman and Founder of Elevate Capital, the acquisition marks the beginning of a new chapter for Nile Scan & Labs. Beyond expanding the company’s diagnostic footprint, Elevate plans to invest heavily in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and technology-driven healthcare solutions designed to improve patient outcomes and operational performance.
The company also outlined ambitions to expand beyond Egypt into broader African markets, reflecting growing investor confidence in the region’s healthcare sector. A unified ownership structure will allow the group to generate greater synergies across diagnostics, hospitals, pharmacies, and specialized medical services while creating a scalable healthcare platform capable of regional expansion.
As part of its long-term strategy, the consortium is also evaluating a potential listing of Nile Scan & Labs on the Egyptian Stock Exchange, providing an additional avenue to support future growth and capital investment.
A Milestone for Egypt’s Healthcare Industry
The transaction also marks the successful exit of Misr Capital and Bank Misr, whose investment helped strengthen Nile Scan & Labs through improvements in governance, operational capabilities, and revenue growth over recent years. Elevate Capital acknowledged the contribution of both institutions while welcoming new investors to support the platform’s next phase of expansion.
Across emerging markets, healthcare providers are increasingly moving toward integrated delivery models that combine hospitals, diagnostics, pharmacies, and digital health services into connected ecosystems. Elevate Capital’s acquisition of Nile Scan & Labs reflects this broader trend, positioning the group to capitalize on rising healthcare demand, growing adoption of digital technologies, and increased private investment across the Middle East and Africa.
With one of Egypt’s largest diagnostic networks now fully integrated into its portfolio, Elevate Capital has taken another significant step toward its vision of building a world-class healthcare platform with regional and international reach—one that aims not only to deliver better healthcare services but also to redefine how healthcare is delivered across Africa.
