Egyptian healthtech startup Reme-D has raised $1.45 million in a Pre-Series A funding round led by Anara Impact Capital, with participation from the Global Innovation Fund (GIF), Africa Health Ventures, and other investors. The funding will help the company expand manufacturing, strengthen its regional presence, and accelerate the development of affordable molecular diagnostics for underserved healthcare markets across Africa.
Founded in 2023 by Salma Tammam, Reme-D develops and manufactures molecular diagnostic tests for infectious diseases, including tuberculosis (TB), HIV, hepatitis, and human papillomavirus (HPV). The company’s focus on producing accurate, affordable, and temperature-resilient diagnostic solutions addresses one of Africa’s biggest healthcare challenges—providing reliable disease testing in regions with limited laboratory infrastructure and cold-chain logistics.
Scaling Local Innovation for Global Health Challenges
The fresh capital will enable Reme-D to significantly expand its operations. The company plans to increase its manufacturing capacity tenfold by moving into a new 1,500-square-meter production facility equipped with advanced manufacturing equipment. It will also broaden its product portfolio by introducing diagnostics for genetic diseases and cancer, while continuing to develop temperature-resilient tests that can be easily transported and stored in remote healthcare settings.
Since its launch, Reme-D has already developed and commercialized 30 diagnostic products, supplying more than 550,000 tests across Egypt, Kenya, and Sudan. Its diagnostics are used by hospitals, laboratories, research institutions, and public health organizations, while its proprietary technology has also been the subject of a U.S. patent application. Earlier this year, the company equipped a solar-powered mobile laboratory commissioned by the World Health Organization (WHO) Egypt to support disease surveillance in remote communities.

Founder and CEO Salma Tammam says Reme-D’s mission goes beyond developing diagnostic products. Her vision is to ensure that patients across Africa and the Global South are no longer denied life-saving diagnoses because of cost or limited access to advanced medical testing.
